AYOE 15 / The Long, Lazy Days of Summer
Hey hey friends!
I can’t believe it’s already July 5th 🤯
I hope those of you in the US had a great 4th of July 🇺🇸 - it was super humid and rainy here so it put a damper on some of our plans, but we just improvised a bit and still had a great time!
One thing in particular that made the weekend so great is that I went a full 4 days without social media. If you follow me on Twitter you know I don’t tweet all the time, but I do usually comment on other people’s tweets. I didn’t even open the app to scroll (IG got ignored too!). It wasn’t a conscious decision, it just happened that real life was much more interesting than opening up an app to see what the internet people were up to 😂
One of the things on my bucket list was to go an entire day without internet and TV, but honestly it’s more meaningful for me to have multiple days without any social media so I’m going to swap that out in my list and check it off (and will probably have at least a few more social media free weekends - they are GLORIOUS!)
And since I brought up the bucket list, I might as well address how that’s going - amazingly I’ve been having so much fun this summer and we’ve barely checked anything off the list.
I think it’s easy to make a list of random things, but in reality it’s more the spirit of the list that I’ve been leaning into. We’ve had some great family dinners, been working together to redecorate our house, have a long weekend trip planned in a few weeks and have been running around to places in our area that we don’t normally, so I’m counting all of that even if they aren’t explicit entries on the Summer Bucket List.
As for the items we’ve checked off so far:
Make a Summer Bucket List playlist (it’s a wild mix of music, but I love it!)
Cloud watching
Donate stuff we’re not using (this even included our old couch, which was fun to see go to a new home!)
Go a full weekend without social media (HIGHLY recommend!)
Have a backyard BBQ (this one ended up being an indoor BBQ for 4th of July since it was raining, but we enjoyed all of our cookout food! 🌭 🍔)
Overall not a ton of items checked off, but Summer 2023 has already been a blast so we’re just gonna roll with it.
What’s Next
Ok so this is the point where I normally announce what the next experiment is, but I have to be super honest with you - it’s summer and I don’t want to commit to doing something every day. I just don’t 😬
Also, it’s already the 5th of the month so I wouldn’t be off to a very good start 😂
So instead of forcing myself to pick something for the sake of it, I’m going to let the Summer Bucket List roll on into July as well. Whether we check off more items on the original list or create completely new ones is a mystery - you’ll have to wait til the next update to see how it goes 😅
Ok that’s a wrap for this update. I hope you’re having a great summer!
Til next time,
xo - Nic
