You guys! How is it June 1st already?!?! 🤯
I finished up my PKM month, but I can’t say I 100% solved the “what notes tool to use” problem that is central to the whole PKM universe. 😬 It’s an ever evolving thing, and I’m ok with it.
I did, however make good progress on creating a daily writing and thinking habit. I didn’t do it every day, but a few times per week - which I’m counting as a win. Go me!
With so much focus on digital things, I really started to feel like I need something totally different for June’s experiment. So I’ve decided to bring back something I LOVED doing when I was younger…
A Summer Bucket List 🪣⛱
I can’t tell you how ridiculously excited I am about this idea. I don’t plan to do everything on the list in June, but I want to do a couple things per week at least.
I made a big list of activities - some are more general and others are more specific to the area I live in (directly on the coast with beach access within 15 min from my house).
Since we moved here 8 years ago, we’ve spent most summers closer to home because the tourists essentially take over the town. But this year we’ll just pretend we’re one of them sometimes and take advantage of living somewhere everyone wants to visit 🤩
Ok, enough blabbing, let’s get to the list…
🍦 Get ice cream on the boardwalk at Carolina Beach
🎥 Attend an outdoor movie
🧘🏼♀️ Take a yoga class on the beach
🌊 Take an afternoon off per week to spend at the beach
🍉 Go to the farmers market weekly
🎸 Attend an outdoor concert
🎆 See fireworks over the ocean/waterway
🍒 Attend the Kure Beach Market
🧵 Make friendship bracelets
🎨 Paint on canvases
👩🎤 Have a 90s and 2000s movie marathon
🚗 Take a road trip and stay overnight somewhere new
🎪 Go to an outdoor festival or fair
🥂 Make boozy popsicles
🍷 Host a neighborhood wine night
🍓 Go pick strawberries
🍷 Go to the winery for wine tasting
☁️ Go cloud watching

🛍 Go thrifting
🏠 Go to a neighborhood garage sale

🎵 Make a summer bucket list playlist
🏄♀️ Watch a surf competition
😎 Play tourist for the day (or weekend) in our city
☀️ Watch the sunrise
🌅 Watch the sunset
🎈 Have a water balloon fight (or water gun?)
🧽 Wash the car by hand

📵 Go a full day without tv or internet
🍋 Make fresh lemonade
🧋Make sun tea
🔥 Make s’mores in the fire pit
🍔 Have a backyard bbq

🚶🏼♀️ Do the One Tree Hill tour
🚶🏼♀️ Do the Dawson’s Creek tour
👻 Do a Ghost tour
🚘 Drive on the beach at Fort Fisher
🦈 Visit the Aquarium
Ok there’s my list for now. Who knows what I’ll add after I have more time to think about it, but this is a good start. 🥳
Will we be able to do it all this summer? Who knows! But it’ll be fun whether we check off 5 items or all of them.
I’m not ok with letting kids have all the fun this summer just because they’re out of school. Adults can have fun too! Plus this is one of the biggest reasons I work for myself - I want to control my schedule and have more time for life than work.
And since I have a teenager who can drive me around now instead of a little one we can do more grown up things (which is honestly my favorite!). People who say teenagers are awful are nuts, I swear. This is my favorite age, by far!
Ok y’all - have I inspired you to create your own Summer Bucket List with my enthusiasm? I would absolutely LOVE to hear about it if you decide to do it. Comment or reply and let me know about it 😎
Til next time…
xoxo - Nic
Awww, Nic! Thanks for sharing this! I did something similar years ago both in Philly, NYC, and O'ahu - all places I've lived in for several years. It felt good being a tourist in my own home town and helped me to appreciate it a different way. I hope you tick off most of the stuff on your bucket list while having loads of fun!
