AYOE 16 / Do IRL Experiences Count If They Aren't Posted Online?
Welp! It’s been a bit since I sent you an update on my Year of Experiments. I don’t have an excuse really - I was just living my best summer life and didn’t make time for it 😅 I’m kinda sorry, but also 🤷🏼♀️
When I realized we were into August and I hadn’t posted an update on what this month’s experiment is, I took a minute to think about how the hell it completely slipped my mind.
What I realized is that I don’t always want to talk about myself or my life. This is why I’m on and off with social media. Maybe it’s because I’m a Gen Xer so social media and sharing all about my life doesn’t come as naturally to me as it does the younger folks.
Or maybe it’s just part of my personality. Whatever the reason, I’ve definitely felt some friction with writing updates about how the year is going. It’s been fun to share some of my insights, but I’m finding I prefer talking about it with people face to face versus just rambling on and on in written form. Fascinating.
Interestingly, I’ve managed to choose and mostly stick to an experiment every month so far, which I’m pretty proud of myself for. I sometimes lose interest in ideas after the newness wears off, so I honestly wasn’t sure how this whole experiment of doing a year of experiments was going to go (so meta, I know! 😅)
Overall I’m still glad I committed to it and I’m looking forward to finishing out the year. I may take a break from doing experiments for a bit once 2024 rolls around.
August’s Experiment
Since we’re at the end of the month now this is a bit anticlimactic, but August’s experiment was writing. I tackled journaling earlier in the year, but this month I was specifically writing content for my business. I’ve written website copy, sales page copy, outlines for workshops and courses, blog posts, social posts and tons of emails for funnels and general automations.
My goal was to write every weekday and so far I’ve done that. I’ve even written on a couple of weekend days so I really should get some bonus points 😁
This experiment wasn’t a super heavy lift since I was going to be writing some of this anyways, but I decided to challenge myself to write more than I needed. Not everything I’ve written has been published yet, but I have plenty of drafts to use in the future so it definitely feels like a win 🥇
So What’s Next?
Instead of choosing something to do everyday for 30 days in September, I’m going to set a goal to create one of the courses I have planned for my business. That means I’ll be scripting and recording videos, creating worksheets and reference materials, and setting up the technical pieces.
I’ve been putting this off for awhile now and honestly have mixed feelings about the entire online education industry / creator economy. I’m hoping the challenge of creating all the content will help me work through my mixed feelings.
I have a couple of beta testers ready to go through it PLUS we’re getting back into the back-to-school swing, so it’s the perfect time to put my head down and focus on getting it done. Hopefully it’s a good experience 🤞🏼
Ok friend, that’s a wrap on this update 🥳
I hope you had a fantastic summer and that you’re feeling good about whatever you have going on this fall. I’ll be back with another update in a couple of weeks!
Til next time,
xx - Nic
